SRO Recertification & Training Hours

SRO Recertification & Training Hours

The ILSROA School Safety Conference provides training opportunities that may be applied toward Illinois School Resource Officer recertification and Illinois law enforcement training mandates.

All conference sessions are reviewed and evaluated by MTU 8 and the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) for applicable training mandate hours.

Attendance is recorded during each training session, and completed training hours will be entered into the Illinois officer training portal following the conference.

Illinois SRO Certification & Recertification

Beginning in January 2021, the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) requires that any law enforcement officer serving as a School Resource Officer (SRO) pursuant to an agreement between a school district and a law enforcement agency must be certified as having completed the required course of instruction.

Certification may be obtained by completing the ILETSB School Resource Officer Course or by receiving a waiver based on previously completed coursework that meets the required training areas.

SRO Recertification

Certified School Resource Officers must periodically complete training that supports continued certification and professional development in school-based policing.

The ILSROA School Safety Conference provides training sessions that may apply toward these requirements, including topics such as:

• Active Threat Response
• Youth & Officer Interaction
• Juvenile Law
• School Safety & Behavioral Threat Assessment
• Legal Updates and Best Practices for SROs

Final training hour categories for the 2026 conference will be announced once the training schedule is finalized.
